Big Island Travel Tips

The Big Island, simply known as the island of Hawaii, has a diverse landscape of colorful beaches, high volcanic mountains, lush rainforests, and stunning waterfalls. On Hawaii's largest island, there are endless secrets to discover. At Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, home of Kilauea and Mauna Loa—two active volcanoes, you can see live lava flows up close. When you reach the top of Mauna Kea—Hawaii's highest point—you are standing over 13,000 feet above the Pacific Ocean. On the wetter eastern side of the Big Island, near the towns of Hilo and Puna, you can hike through the rainforests and waterfalls in Akaka Falls State Park. The northwest side of the island provides a dry climate that is perfect for beach relaxation. The Kona Coast is known for coffee plantations and the Kohala Coast is famous for snorkeling and oceanfront resorts. Many of our Big Island vacation rentals are located near the Kahalu'u beach park, one of Hawaii's top snorkeling spots.

See live lava flowing into the Pacific Ocean, taste fresh Hawaiian food at a local farmers market, and relax on Punalu'u, one of Hawaii's famous black sand beaches. Vacation Rentals by Choice Hotels™ oceanfront resorts, beach condos, villas, and luxury vacation homes on The Big Island are a gateway to many wonders of Hawaii's biggest playground.
