Top Sights in Summit County

Parkville Ghost Town

If you’re interested in finding a unique experience to brag about after your vacation, consider taking a drive to search for the Parkville ghost town. Once the largest town in Summit County, you’ll need to look hard to find the remains of the old Parkville cemetery and main street buildings that used to be part of a town that almost became the capital of Colorado. Legend has it the ghost town can be found halfway between Breckenridge and the Dillon Reservoir.

Arapahoe Basin

A-Basin, also known as Arapahoe Basin, has one of the highest skiable landscapes with a summit elevation of 13,050 feet. This means if you’re looking to do some late season skiing, this is the place to go. The area is usually open mid-October through early June. The Basin can be found just below Loveland Pass and offers one of the most stunning views of the Continental Divide.

Green Mountain Reservoir

Pontoons, ahoy! Once you’ve reserved one of our Summit County vacation rentals, gift yourself the chance to escape for a leisurely day on a peaceful mountain lake. Green Mountain Reservoir is in northern Summit County and is great for summertime swimming, fishing, and boating. Heeney Marina has rental vendors where you can book a pontoon boat, float away, and jump into the cool waters surrounded by the splendid Rocky Mountains.

Top Experiences in Summit County

Go Ice Fishing

One of the most thrilling things to do in Summit County is to go ice fishing at Lake Dillon. Located just a few minutes from the major towns in the area, the lake reservoir is very safe with a solid ice cap that lasts most of the year. Tour guides take groups from all levels and usually provide an ice fishing hut with all the gear, tackle, bait, ice fishing sonars and heaters for you to use.

Bike Like You’ve Never Biked Before

For the more conditioned (and courageous) mountain biking enthusiast, take part in the Breckenridge 100. This epic race tests skills of endurance as it spans over 100 miles, crosses the Continental Divide three times, and climbs to just over 13,700 feet. If this race is not your speed, you can always cheer on the participants who ride into Breckenridge to complete the final leg of the grueling, yet highly rewarding course.
